The Passing Of Ex Player Stuart Thornber
The Club is saddened by the passing of former player Stuart Thornber aged 61. Stuart played for Silsden Cricket Club for 20 years. A left handed batter and bowler his highlights included a century against Steeton. Our thoughts are with his family at this sad time.

The pair came together on 120-3 (Roberts 54, Firth 19 and Worsencroft 3) and formed an unbeaten 140 run partnership to help Silsden to a 142 run victory. more> Harry Sugden Photo>

Season Review by Tim Sugden - Chairman
A difficult start to the year when the club was forced to leave the Airedale Wharfedale Senior Cricket League after 80 unblemished years but for the good of the club we were gratefully accepted into the Craven Cricket League to start a new chapter in the clubs history . A thank you to all the players who stuck with the club. We played new teams and made new friends; one such fixture being Gargrave, the first senior match between our clubs for some 45 year. The season panned out with us playing 22 games, winning 16, losing none, no results in 6 matches and gaining the club promotion. Thanks to Andy Pullen for looking after the team. There were many notable performances including centuries for Jack Lister, Tom Berry and Andy Pullen. Will Pullen and Keiran Lawrence did the bulk of the bowling but the season was a collective effort from everybody including Tom Snowden who went all season using the same kit.
Once again thanks to the ground staff Hugh, Finlay, Martin and Tatts and all the helpers who tidied the changing rooms and other tasks. The kitchen was again well looked after and thanks to all providers of the teas. We are lucky to have a number of sponsors either on the roadside boards or the ground boards and thanks go to them all. New sponsors are always welcome. Graham umpired in all but one game this season so his commitment and slight of finger was very much appreciated. Alison looked after the Play Cricket site and Mick the website. Thanks to them.
Thanks to all the supporters who followed the club home and away this season, it was very much appreciated.
Our U17 team reached the cup final, losing to Skipton. Rob Jones collected the U17 Player of the Year for the league. It is the end of an era for the U17 lads, so we are looking to start teams next year if anyone is interested. And finally thanks to the committee who after a traumatic start to 2017 saw things through with less grief than in previous seasons. Once again on behalf of the committee, thank you to everyone this year.
Silsden Secure Promotion
Well done everybody as Silsden completed their 1st season in the Craven & District Cricket League undefeated from their 22 games winning 16 with 3 abandoned and 3 concessions. Silsden won the Division 4b Championship. With 63 points and finished 2nd in the amalgamated 20 team division 4 league table. Full season review to follow shortly.
Silsden CC gained promotion in their last match with a commanding win over Skipton Church Institute. Big hits from Hugh Sugden 62 not out and Tom Berry 91 helped to reach the total of 215-4. The bowling and fielding continued where the batting left off. Catches make matches with 6 of the wickets being catches, with wickets from William Pullen 4, Max Worsencroft 3 and Nick Firth 2. Message from Our Chairman
Welcome everybody to a new cricket season in the Craven Cricket league and hope everyone enjoys their cricket. Once again we are looking for help with teas, umpiring, scoring and general ground duties. We are very grateful to the new helpers who have come forward but we could always do with sharing the workload with more volunteers.

Club Update: Why Silsden CC Now play in the Craven League
To all members and friends where ever you may be in the country or overseas. You may be wondering what has been happening during the close season. Well a mass exodus of players from last year for various reasons including injury, retirement and playing elsewhere these players included last years captain Chris Meehan who in his short tenure as captain managed to upset nearly everyone. The club proposed to the Airedale Wharfedale league that we run a second team only in the second team league. This was based on the most of the remaining players were under 18 and giving the club time to regroup. The league turned this request down saying that we must play in the first team league. The club felt that this was not right as the spirit of cricket and the safeguarding of players was not considered. After a vote of no confidence from the League, the club thought that they better resign before being voted out as two other clubs had applied to join the league. This vote of no confidence brought on our approach to the Craven league who had a vacancy in their league which we duly excepted and resigned from the AW league before being pushed. This move ended a 80 year association with the league as a founder member club. Silsden Cricket Club was formed in 1876 and over the last 15 years put over £150000 into its facilities. The club must now look forward to new challenges and try and put the indignity of the winter behind them.
Looking Forward to this Season
After a challenging 2016 the club look forward to 2017 in our 1st year of Craven & District Cricket League. All new players senior or junior are welcome to join our progressive club whilst enjoying some of the finest facilities local cricket can offer.
Silsden CC Install a Defibulator
Silsden Cricket Club have a defibulator filled the outside wall of the clubhouse. Tim Sugden said hopefully we will not need it but it is a massive help should it be required. Over the years we have had a couple of instances where it would have been used, so we welcome the addition of this piece of cardiac science.
2016 League Presentation Night
Friday 21st October saw the League presentation night held once again at the fine Village Hotel in Headingley. Tim, Hugh and Andy attended and although they had no awards to collect, many comments were on offer regarding the superb way Silsden CC hosted the 2016 Birtwhistle Cup final. North Leeds veteran Steve Wales was very complementary. Tim said that they had a good meal and saw a few old faces adding in over 30 years of organising and attending dinners. It was noted that he guest speaker / comedian, Ged Stone, was the worst by a long long way that they had ever encountered.
2016 Season Review
Well the curtain has come down on another season. All the benches and tables have been put away. The side screens and training nets have been taken down until the 2017 season begins. Thanks go to Ian Pullen who once again did a sterling job as secretary and to the other committee members. Thanks to Hugh and Finlay Sugden for all the great work on the grounds, once again making our playing area one of the best around. We obtained rain covers which helped preserve the wickets. Highlight of the season was hosting the 2016 Birtwistle Cup when our hospitality and ground gained many compliments. Thanks to all our sponsors, spectators and refreshment helpers and to everyone else who contributed help for which we are continually grateful. To Alison Firth who took on the role of play cricket administrator. Thanks to Chris on captaining the 1st team in what turned out to be a difficult season. Losing Majid Inyatt and Dave Brook proved pivitol and early season promise never materialised. We wish all the best to overseas player Shaun Brentnall. The 2nd team again under the stewardship of Andy Pullan continued to blood the youngsters, with outstanding performances from Nick Firth, Rob Jones and Jack Lister during the season. Credit goes to all players as we turned out 22 players and 2 teams every week when other clubs are forfeiting games and being short of players. We need to recruit some players for next season but massive positives are the continued success of the younger players who given time will come good. Tim Sugden completed 12 years as junior manager as his Under17s came of age. Andy Pullen will once again run the u17s next year when we hope to run Under 15s and Under 9s as well. Once again, thanks to everyone and have a well-earned break.
Silsden CC AGM
Silsden CC held its AGM on Thursday 16th February 2017 when 16 members attended with no apologies received. Treasurer Paul Tatterton reported a healthy balance sheet for the year considering the score box, nets, covers, clubhouse, mowers etc had all been paid for now. He thanked the persons behind all this activity, making our facilities some of the best in the area. President Bob Savage, Secretary Ian Pullen and Chair Tim Sugden all made similar reports thanking ground staff, sponsors, supporters, junior managers and anyone else who helped out during the season. Bob said that the Birtwistle Cup final was a great day and a proud moment in our history.
Tim added that he was very disappointed that a number of players had decided to play elsewhere this season and that it was about time some players who play all their junior cricket with the club try and put something back into the club behind the scenes. This was something we tried to do last year but people were not up to it and therefore threw the towel in.
Looking forward it had been difficult to find 8-9 new players en bloc and discussions took place how to best take the club forward and in the best interests of Silsden Cricket Club. The Meeting closed with thanks for all those who attended.
Ex Silsden CC Junior Makes 1st Start for Bradford City
Congratulations to former Silsden junior cricketer Ellis Hudson on making his full senior debut for Bradford City at Millwall. Ellis pictured played in our all winning under 9s, 11s and 13s sides and also represented the Upper Airedale League team before concentrating on his football. All the best from everybody at Silsden CC.
New Rain Covers at Silsden CC
The introduction of the new rain covers at Silsden should help to get more cricket played on the rainy days.

New Overseas Player
Silsden welcome our overseas player for the 2016 season Shaun Brentnall is from Melbourne and joins us on the back of scoring heavily in the Nidderdale league for Hampsthwaite last year where he won the league batting award. We hope he enjoys his stay with us and being part of a team that puts last terms disappointments well behind us and build a team for the future on a ground with some of the finest facilities in league cricket.
Silsden Junior To Play Overseas
Silsden junior player William Robinson is part of the Bradford Grammar School squad that is to undertake a tour of the West Indies. The trip departs on the 1st July for 2 weeks taking in games in St Kitts, Barbados and Grenada.
New Club Captain Appointed
Silsden Cricket Club are hoping the return of Chris Meehan as new captain will spell better fortunes for the club next season. The Aire-Wharfe League side finished bottom of Division Three last campaign after failing to win a game all season. But the Cobbydalers are optimistic the return of the all-rounder, who came through the junior ranks and and captained the side before going abroad to work, can get them on the up again. Meehan is currently playing rugby union for Bradford Salem, having previously played for Keighley and Wharfedale.
Chris Meehan Silsden CC 1st Team Captain
Silsden are also hopeful that prolific batsman Majid Inyat can commit to a full season, having missed spells due to work last summer. They also intend to acquire an overseas player, along with blooding some of their homegrown youngsters. Chairman Tim Sugden said: "After a difficult season, we are hoping the appointment of Chris can bring new life and help us turn the corner." Any players interested in joining Silsden next season can contact Meehan on 07504-900393.
Silsden Cricket Club AGM
Thank you everybody who attended the AGM on Wednesday 10th Feb. President Bob Savage started the meeting by having a minutes silience to remember past members including Frank Morley who was a former captain who passed away in January. Bob, Ian Pullen and Tim Sugden all gave reviews on the past season with a common factor of thanking tea ladies, and sponsors. Hugh Sugden and Andy Pullen got special thanks for getting sides out every week and for not receiving any fines in the process in what was a very difficult season. The ground was again in top condition and the League has recognised our efforts with the clubhouse, scorebox and nets by awarding us the 2016 Birtwistle Cup Final. Ian praised the juniors Ben Sugden, Nick Firth, Will Pullen, Jack Lister, Ethan Copping and all the lads who played senior cricket last year. Jack Lister's Under15 side won the cup. Tim reported that the club would have covers for the start of the season but there was still a lot of work to be done on the field due to the recent floods with the ECB helping with some funding. Ian also thanked Alison Firth for taking on the role as Play Cricket administrator. Chris Meehan takes over as first team captain we have signed an Australian player who we hope can continue his fine form of last year and we welcome Shaun to the club and hope he enjoys his stay. Majid Inyatt had committed to this season and a number of new players are in the pipeline to mix with our talented youngsters as we aim to climb up the league. Andy Pullen remains in charge of the 2nd team. Paul Tatterton conveyed the balance sheet and reminded us we could do with some more sponsor boards if possible. Annual subs are £20 for all and £5 match subs for all this season but said there would be a shortfall as umpires, scorers and balls could be £150 a week. WInter Nets start Friday 19th Feb 6-7pm at South Craven for seniors and juniors. We are running two Under 17 teams this year as well as an Under 13 (year8 and below) and under 9s( year4 and below) all new players welcome for any age group futher details from team managers. Good luck for the forthcoming season .
The Upper Airedale junior season came to an end last week and it was another good season for Silsden. The U17s finished 5th in their league whilst the U15s finished 4th. Highlight of the year was the U15s cup success beating Wharfedale, Embsey, Bradley and Crossflatts before defeating a strong Oxenhope side in the final to see Jack Lister's team lift the Raleigh Hargreaves cup .
On an individual note there were outstanding bowling feats from Ben Sugden who in one game took 5-10 this was bettered by Jack Lister who took 7-8 for the 2nd best bowling analysis in league history. In the batting u15s Jack Lister scored 212 runs at 35 and Cam Knowles scored 237 runs at an average of 47. for the U17s Nick Firth scored 188 runs and Ben Sugden was the only qualifier with 15 wks at an average of 12 to win the league bowling following Will Pullen's success last year. Fielding wise Will Pullen took 5 catches as did Nick Firth and Jack Lister took 7 catches for the 15s.
On a representative level both Nick Firth and Will Pullen played for the Joe Lumb team and Cam Knowles played for the U15 Taveners side. Thank you for all coaches and helpers, a full review will be in the full end of season brief.
Under 15s Win Final
Congratulations to the Under15s who on Sunday 12th July 2pm at Oakworth won the Raleigh Hargreaves cup.
Aire-Wharfe League Forum at Silsden
Silsden Cricket Club hosted a forum night for players to voice their opinions on how to keep developing the Aire-Wharfe League and to let the league know how games could be improved on Saturdays.
Rules for 2015 Season
All first team fixtires will have fielding restrictions this year with a 30 yard ring of plastic circles with 6 players in the infield at all times.
The league have took on board various issues regarding the length of the game effecting teams. The 2015 season will be a trial for the 2nd team 3rd div clubs to play 45 overs each with each bowler restricted to 13 overs each.
End of an Era
Our heavy roller has gone to roll the great wicket in the sky. After being out of action for 20 years, the roller has been decommissioned and removed from the grounds. The roller has been a fixture at the club for over 80 years. Club stalwarts Ian Pullen and Bob Savage recall the days when the wicket was rolled by the team before the game, at the interval and finally at close of play. It was a true bonding session when players and children a like joined in.
Best Wishes to Kieran Lawrence
Best wishes from everyone at Silsden CC go to Kieran Lawrence who suffered serious injury whist playing with the 2nd team at Skipton on Saturday 27th June. Play was held up for over an hour as Keiran was treated on the field by ambulance staff. Kieran will miss the rest of the season but we hope he makes a full recovery from this injury.
End of Season Review
The seats have gone away, the square scarified and roped off and so ends another cricket season. The season started back in April with the completion of our two lane off-field practice area. Thanks go to everyone who helped with the works and it’s a credit to the cricket club for making it a self-funded project.
This year also saw the milestone of our secretary Ian Pullen starting his 46th year in the role. An achievement that surely can’t be bettered by many personnel. And Ian also played for the 2nd XIs along with two sons Andy and Graham and grandson Will on his 70th birthday in the victory at Bardsey. This match also saw 14 year old Ben Sugden score an unbeaten 65 runs.
The club would also like to thank the cricket committee for all their hard work during the season and to Paul Tatterton who once again controlled the purse strings. Thanks also goes to our president Bob Savage for his continuing service to the club. The ground staff of Hugh Sugden and Robert Harvey once again did a magnificent job making sure the ground was in top condition for each game whether it be senior, junior or a Sunday hire.
Silsden once again hosted a Yorkshire Under12 game for the 5th year and the South Craven v M.C.C. fixture which featured a number of our junior players with Ben Sugden winning the Spirit of Cricket cap for his dogged batting.
Yorkshire County Cricket Pro-coach Academy once again held their August coaching school at Silsden which was very well attended.
On the playing side the first team lead by Hugh Sugden aimed to improve on the 2013 season and with the introduction of Gulsheraz and Wacas things improved greatly and with Majid Inayat all made vital contributions as did young keeper Tom Greenwood. The loss off Balla halted our top three ambition and we had to settle for a creditable seventh place finish ending the season doing the league double over Addingham. The team also reached the finals day of the Keighley Twenty20 bowing out in the semis. The second team captained by Andy Pullen contained many of our juniors with Ben Sugden, Nick Firth, Will Pullen, Jack Lister and Cammy Knowles all playing regularly. It was sometimes a struggle balancing the team however we managed to get a full side out every week which some other teams failed to do and if we can keep the youngsters together with the introduction of a few senior names the future looks healthy. Special thanks go to the two scorers, Tom Southern who did a super job coping with the on–line scoring for the 1st XIs and Jessica Tatterton–Savage for doing the 2nd XI.
The juniors had a splendid season. Thanks go to Andy Pullen and Tim Sugden for running the youth section. Our under 17s winning the cup by completely outplaying the league champions Gargrave in the final at Skipton, Joe Sugden lifting the cup and Waindy getting the man of the match. Our younger u15 side had a good campaign finishing half way in the league with Jack Bastain taking 6-8 in one game. Our U15 Eagles went the entire season unbeaten to finish well deserved league champions seeing skipper Ben Sugden lift the trophy. We were well represented with honours at the league presentation night Nick Firth scored 338 runs at an average of 169 to take the U15 batting with Will Pullen’s 21 wickets easily winning the U17 bowling award. The League Wicket Keeping Award went to Cameron Knowles. Both Ben Sugden and Nick Firth played for the league u15 side both making outstanding contributions in the 3 games with Nick winning the bowling award.
The club would like to thank all the persons who did the refreshments at the junior games and those who did the teas at senior games.
Thanks also goes to Mick Sugden for the maintenance and up keep of the club website.
A major part of any club is sponsorship and we would like to thank all our sponsors for their valuable contributions.
2014 saw the Tour de France pass our ground and what a fun family day we had with drink and food a plenty and a seat in our grandstand overlooking the event.
2014 also saw Chairman Tim Sugden on the radio as he was a regular on Drystone Radio promoting the club and giving his views on Saturday’s games although he sometimes had to juggle commentary with playing.
The future looks good our 5 year plan is complete new score box/store – off field practice area – new mower and with cushioned seats on all our benches and the junior section providing a number of players in the seniors we can all be proud of our efforts this year.

On Tuesday Silsden, the Under 17s cup holders, bowed out at the hands of Bradford and Bingley. Bingley made 128-7 and Silsden replied with 111-8 with Nick Firth retiring on 51 and Cammy Knowles 28 were the only ones to reach double figures.
Cup Games - Thank You
A big thank you to all the players/parents who played on Sunday in the cup fixtures enablling us to put out 2 competitive teams when many clubs failed to do so. Many positives were gained from the weekend with young players stepping up to the mark. The 1st team game was played with 10 men as the Silsden scorer was not available, so Tim Sugden took to the duties however when a suitable scorer did arrive he was not allowed to take over and Mr Sugden take his place in the batting line up. Commenting on this to the Silsden CC website, Mr Sugden said we could not find any rule relating to this occurance and we were batting first so we rang for a replacment although once the scorer did come he should have been able to take over and the player return to the field of play as I was on the team sheet so nothing had been contravened. Iit spoilt my weekend as i could have gone out for a meal at night if i had not been playing. Never mind another case of cricket coming second to regulation.
Clarification has been found that Silden should have been able to field 11 players once the scoring duties were taken over to allow Mr Sugden back on to the field of play.

Under 17s Win The William Spencer Cup Final
Silsden Under17s won the William Spencer cup final on Sunday 29th June 2014 at Skipton by defeating top of the table Gargrave. Silsden won the toss and put Gargrave in to bat. Josh Waind removed the dangerous Jona Smith for just 3 runs and Joe Wood for only 2runs. With Joe Sugden and Waind out of the attack, Gargrave might have fancied piling on the runs but young guns William Pullen and Ben Sugden had other ideas. Pullen ripped through the batting with the crucial wicket of Blanchard for 27runs. Pullen finished with 4-12 and Ben Sugden 2-23. Joe Sugden came back to take the last wicket. With a very good bowling attack coupled with some fine fielding catches by Pat Lee and Dom Mortimer, Silsden reduced Gargrave to 67 all out.
The Silsden reply stuttered as Jona Smith got 2 early wickets and with Leach, Firth and Ben Sugden all back in the pavilion, Silsden were at a worrying 11-3. Josh Waind and Tom Greenwood steadied the ship, adding 47 runs for the fourth wicket. Pat Lee then joined Waind to see Silsden home with 6 wickets and 11 overs to spare.
Josh Waind was named man of the match. The trophy was presented to Silsden captain Joe Sugden to send a large Silsden following home happy. The full side was Joe Sugden, Ben Sugden, Nick Firth, Tom Snowden, Tom Leach, Tom Greenwood, Dom Mortimer, Pat Lee, Josh Waind, Will Pullen and Sammy Warriner. With five of the side being winners of the first ever Under 9s league 8 years ago in 2006. Click for scorecard.

Under 15s & 17s Progress to the Semi Finals
Well done to the Under 15s who joimed the Under17s into the semi finals of the league cup knockouts. Pakistani International Trains at Silsden
Pakistani cricket International Israrullah was taking advantage of our new net facility when he visited Silsden on Tuesday. Israrullah plays first class for Peshawar where he has played over 80 matches with a high score of 222. The 24 year old is currently in the Pakistani Test and One day squad. He is currently playing for Saltaire in the Bradford League.
The 2014 opening round of games is fast approaching. The ground looks in top order and our off field practice area is a welcome addtition to our already first class facilities. The nets were completed on time and we are very greatfull to the hard work and generosity of our members and friends for the funding of this project.
The 1st XI team start on Saturday 19th April with a home game against Olicanian. We welcome the experienced allrounder Iqbal Khan to the club he is also joined by Muhammad Waqas who last year played at Salam Athletic and Gulsheraz Ahmed the 17 year veteran of the Bradford League who's prolific run scoring has gained him a reputation bar none. We hope our new players have a very enjoyable season. Majid Inyat enters his third season at the club. Hugh Sugden captains a side being forced to re build following the loss of nine of last season's team. We are hopeful of a few more additions before the opening game.
The 2nd XI team travel to Thackley with Andy Pullen at the helm. JJ and Tom Berry are welcomed back for a full season after helping out last year. Dick Strapon also joins the 2nd team that again will see a number of our highly rated juniors involved.
The club are running two Under 15 sides. They start on Wednesday 23rd April with the Under 17s getting under way on Monday 28th April.
We also would like to hear from any parents, girlfriends, wives, partners, mistresses or just friends who would be willing to help serve refreshments on juniors nights and on Saturdays for the seniors. This is done by rota so please check what dates you prefer.
We very much appreciate all our current sponsors but would welcome any new ones with the prime scorebox wall still available. Have a enjoyable season .
1st Round Of Waddilove & Birtwhistle Cup
The draw for the 1st round of the Waddilove and Birtwhistle Cups sees us take on last year's winners Burley, a repeat of the 1966 cup final when Burley were the victors. In total Burley have won the cup 9 times whilst Silsden's only success came in 1962. The 2nd team also play Burley, both teams having won the 2nd XI cup on one occasion Silsden's being in 1972. The games take place on Sunday 18th May.
Following the league meeting the proposal for reduced over games for 3rd division 2nd team games was overwelmingly outvoted. Chairman Tim Sugden commented that this seemed very strange as this was one of the reasons teams struggled to get teams out last season with youngsters and seniors in the side and the older umpires saw in a long day. Another change was to the points system out go winning and losing draws with 10pts for a win and batting and bowling bonus points being encured. Tim also commented that we will see how this one goes but its more than likley that the same team would win the league what ever points are given instead of 80pts winning the title it would be 250pts. It will introduce positive cricket as a team can lose but still pick up 10 bonus points rather than the 1 or 2 for losing draws as it was.
Silsden Players Make League Averages
Congratulation to all our players who made the League averages; Majid Inyat 599 runs at an average of 33 for the first team, Andy Pullen 782 runs at an average of 49, Hugh Sugden 560 runs at an average of 32 and to Tom Greenwood in his first full season came 2nd in the 3rd division Wicketkeeper section with 18 victims.
End Of Season Message
Once again the seats are away and the changing rooms empty as another season is over. The club as usual want to thank a number of personnel for their efforts during the 2013 season. The committee and club officials for their continued hard work. Hugh for keeping the ground up to a very high standard with the new outfield mower has enabled the ground to be cut more than once a week. The ground once again hosting a Yorkshire u12 game other representative games and the Yorkshire pro coach academy. Club sponsors are a very important part of our income and the club thank each and every sponsor who contributed this year. Once again all the people who helped serve the refreshments at senior and junior games were suberb and the teas provided were of top quality. Thanks also to Mick for maintaining the website. This year the development of our junior section has been even more important with a number of players introduced to the senior sides, so thanks to Andy, Tim, Paul and all the parents, scorers and helpers. The u13s finished 4th winning 7 out of 14 games, the u15s finished 5th winning 2 games and the under17s 4th winning 7 games and reaching the cup semi final. Tom Greenwood won the u17 league Keeping award and Max Berrisford won the u13 league Player of the Year. Thanks also to Robert Harvey who umpired all the u15 and 17 games this year. The 2nd team was in transision and thanks go to Andy and Hugh for sticking with the junior players all season with all of them equitting themselves well during the season with 13yr olds Nick Firth and Ben Sugden playing all year. Andy also scored 3 centruries during the year and Hugh one ton. We thank 1st team captain Simon Cox for his efforts with the firsts in what has been a difficult season losing Craig Thornton during the closed season and Lee Billbrough being restricted to a single game due to work commitments, were players who were greatly missed. Going from victory in the opening 2 games to no wins again to end the season bottom of the league for some reason this year a number of first team players found the standard of cricket well beyond their level resulting in them leaving the club mid season and a number of others failed to see the season out which was a very disappointing factor. On the other hand a big thanks to all the players who did play this season particully the youngsters and those who got the late call and Mr Ian Pullen who again donned the whites to play for the club for the 6th decade.
Phase 2 Of Practice Area Given Go Ahead
Following the club AGM on Tuesday 3rd Dec, it was agreed to go ahead with the 2 lane off field practice nets. The facility being funded by the hard work and endevour of our members and friends. This development sees the completion of our plan with the clubhouse - score/store facility - and now the nets. If you had not already noticed the two large trees by the score building are now down and the land levelled ready for the start of the net construction which could be in January weather permitting.

Players, members and friends of Silsden Cricket Club were all saddened to hear of the passing of umpire and friend Mr John Chadwick. Over the years John has become well known to a lot of people in the area, walking down from Steeton Top and on most occassions having to umpire on his own to make sure we got a game which took a massive effort at his age. He had a tremendous repart with all levels of player, young & old alike. Chairman Tim Sugden said that 'after the final game last year I'd come back to Silsden where John had umpired. He was sat with Andy and Hugh chewing the fat, he told me tha he might have done his last game. John was a character and he will be greatly missed next season. The funeral will be at Burnley Crematorium on Friday 10th Jan at 10am.

Silsden CC 133rd AGM Held
Silsden Cricket Club held their 133rd annual general meeting on 22nd November 2012. There was a good turn out as president Mr Bob Savage chaired the meeting. Ian Pullen, in his 45th year as club secretary, gave the review thanking other officials, sponsors, captains, players, groundstaff, tea ladies, Silsden Sports Club, the junior managers, Mick Sugden for maintaining the club website and all persons who contributed throughout the season. Congratulations to Majid Inyat who scored over 1000runs in all competitions helping Silsden win the Keighley cup. Treasurer Paul Tatterton reported we were in a reasonable financial position with an increase in fundraising and sponsorship. There was an increase in match day contributions but this was however countered by a reduction in refreshments due to the number of games called off at senior and junior level. Next year the under 18s will not pay match subs when playing senior cricket and the annuals for seniors and juniors remained at £20 a season with seniors paying £10 a game. The club also reported that during the previous week the score box has been broken into with the theft of numerous items of equipment . Bob thanked members for their attendance and the meeting was closed.

Many made the extra effort and came in fancy dress as can be seen from the photos(maybe we should have had a prize for the best, though I wouldn't have liked to be the judge!)

Both teams played excellently on the last day of the season. The 1st XI fought hard away at Hall Park, picking up all 6 points making them climb above rivals Addingham in the table. The 2nd XI set a decent score in the first innings with most batters contributing well. They had to make do with a makeshift bowling side due to injuries and struggled to bowl out the tail enders. Both sides pulled back their form in the latter half of the season. more>

Derek was truly a remarkable and unique figure who carried out every duty the club had to offer. As a high quality alrounder; very capable batsman, leg spin and googly bowler, he played for the club through five decades and was well known throughout the Airedale Wharfedale league. He also served as a trustee of the sports field. Derek was also a good golfer and a past captain of Silsden golf club. The tradition was carried on with son David who played for Silsden and grandson Sam who plays with the Under 11s. Our thoughts are with Barbara, David and Linda and all the grandchildren and greatgrand children. Ian pullen and Tim Sugden said that it's the end of an era, these people who put so much time into a club are no longer about and derek's endevours over the past years will not be forgotten.
